This is when anti-inflammatory medication is placed close to nerves or disc that are injured in the lower portion of one’s back. It is used to try and promote healing by reducing the nerve swelling. The goal is for there to be reduction of tingling and numbness, as well as pain of the feet, legs, hips, back, and buttock. The steroids are typically effective for one or two weeks at a time and may also be accompanied with a local anesthetic to provide relief that is immediate but temporary.
