Tendinitis (also refer to as tendonitis) is the inflammation of a tendon. This painful condition commonly results from repetitive movements normally at high intensity. The overuse of the tissue produces micro-tears in the collagen matrix along with inflammation, swelling, tenderness and aching pain. This can be true particularly on specific movements. Older athletes can be prone to it. Pain control treatment consists of identifying and reversing the cause and applying local anti-inflammatory measures such as RICE, anti-inflammatory medication, electrotherapy and at times corticosteroid injection.
