A condition that affects one’s lumbar spine or lower back. This is the most common place on the spine for there to be a herniated disc. It occurs when there is a tear in the fibrous, outer ring of an intervertebral disc allowing the central, soft portion to then bulge outward beyond the outer rings that have been damaged. This condition is caused most often when there is degeneration that is age related to the annulus fibrosus. It is possible however for it to be the cause of injury from lifting, trauma, and even straining.
